FAQ

Q: What types of people do you work with?

A: I specialize in helping individuals looking to accomplish any or all of the following – weight loss, increasing energy levels, curbing cravings and hunger, reducing stress, decreasing intake of processed foods and living a more whole & balanced life.

Q: How do I know if health coaching is for me?

A: Health coaching is great for anyone ready and inspired to make changes in their life but unsure of how to get started. Health coaches take the time to listen to your unique concerns and help you identify goals, strategies and solutions that work for you. There is no “one size fits all” approach to health. A Health Coach will help you navigate the world of contradictory nutritional advice to identify exactly what will work for your body and your needs.

Q: I see that you follow a paleo diet and lifestyle. Do you recommend this for all of your clients?

A: The short answer is no. Personally, I struggled with a variety of digestive and health issues from a young age and after extensive research, trial & error and refining, I found that a paleo diet and lifestyle work best for my body and my needs. However, I firmly believe in the concept of Bio-Individuality (that each person has unique food and lifestyle needs) and never take a “one size fits all” approach to health. While I feel there are principals of paleo that can be beneficial across the board such as consuming whole foods, paying attention to the quality of food we eat, using our bodies to exercise in ways that are intrinsic and achieving balance and happiness in all aspects of our lives, I work with my clients to figure out what will work for them on an individual, case by case basis.

Q: Can you tell me more about your certification?

A: I received my training as a Health Coach from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition‘s cutting-edge Health Coaching Training Program. During my training, I studied over 100 dietary theories, practical lifestyle management techniques, and innovative coaching methods with some of the world’s top health and wellness experts. My teachers included Dr. Andrew Weil, Director of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine; Dr. Deepak Chopra, leader in the field of mind-body medicine; Dr. David Katz, Director of Yale University’s Prevention Research Center; Dr. Walter Willett, Chair of Nutrition at Harvard University; Geneen Roth, bestselling author and expert on emotional eating; and many other leading researchers and nutrition authorities. My education has equipped me with extensive knowledge in holistic nutrition, health coaching, and preventive health. Drawing on these skills and my knowledge of different dietary theories, I work with clients to help them make lifestyle changes that produce real and lasting results.

Q: What is the difference between a Holistic Health Coach and a Registered Dietician?

A: While some maintain their own practice, Registered Dieticians often work in conventional medical settings, such as hospitals and public health centers with doctors to help patients with series health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, or cancer. Registered Dietitians are overseen by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and must therefore follow a certain set of guidelines in terms of the recommendations they can make to patients. While this ensures a certain level of standard practice, it leaves less room for individualized support and does not take into account the non-dietary aspects of life that facilitate or prevent healing (such as anxiety about work, lack of sleep or adequate hydration, or time for relaxation). Being in more conventional settings, RD’s are generally less able to provide ongoing support to patients, and their focus is more on disease-management and the elimination of symptoms rather than achieving a higher level of thriving in life.

Q: I see that you recommend a 6 month health coaching program. Is it possible to work with you for a shorter or longer period of time?

A: As a general rule, I recommend a minimum of 6-months to my clients. Achieving true, sustainable change takes time. Additionally, I practice a holistic approach to health and wellness, which means that I look at how all areas of your life are connected. Unlike achieving quick, unsustainable results with a fad diet or restrictive cleanse, health coaching is about taking extra time to focus on what’s best for every aspect of your life. You’re less likely to maintain something that doesn’t serve you as a whole. This doesn’t mean you won’t start seeing and feeling results much sooner, but it’s the journey, not the destination, that teaches you how to truly maintain a happier and healthier life. If after completing all 12 sessions you feel you would benefit from extra coaching, I am always open to discussing options to extend your program.

Q: How many sessions are included with your 6-month program?

A: Every 6-month program includes 12 bi-weekly 50-minute sessions. The program also includes email support, recipes, giveaways and more.

Q: Do you accept clients that aren’t local and would need to have sessions over the phone?

A: Absolutely. Our program may be structured slightly differently than it would be for local clients, but you can achieve the same success as you would with in-person sessions. The only downside to remote coaching is that one-on-one cooking instruction, grocery store tours & kitchen clean-outs are not included.

Q: How much does health coaching cost?

A: My rates are as follows:
– If paid in full before our first session, my 6-month program costs $960 ($80 per session).
– If paid in 3, bi-monthly installments, the program costs $1,140 ($95 per session with three $380 installments).
– If paid per session, the program costs $1,200 ($100 per session).

Q: I don’t really want to focus on my health and am only interested in losing weight. Is your program right for me?

A: Probably not. You are welcome to contact me for more information but I normally only take clients who are interested in losing weight within the context of achieving a higher level of health and wellness.

Q: How do I know if I will benefit from health coaching?

A: If the information on my website has still left you unsure of whether or not you would benefit from health coaching, I recommend scheduling a free 50-minute health consultation with me where we can talk more in depth about you and your goals.
