What I Loved In September

What-I-Loved-in-September

It’s hard to believe it’s already October, mostly because I was on vacation for most of the past month! In late August my husband and I went to Maui, came home for a few days and then left again for a little over two weeks in Europe! Keep your eye out because my Europe recap is coming later this week. Right after Europe, my husband went home but I took a detour to Baltimore for Expo East to check out all of the new and exciting things in the natural products industry.

Naturally, my favorite things from the past month are a hodge podge of travel-related items and new releases in books, food and skincare!

BOOKS & COOKBOOKS:
The Paleo Kids Cookbook: I received this cookbook right before I left for Europe so I had to wait until after I got back from my trip to start cooking from it. If you follow me on Instagram or Snapchat, you know I’ve been RAVING about these recipes. With dishes like grilled cheese, pizza, soft pretzels and Mac n’ Cheese, it’s basically gluten and dairy-free heaven. Stay tuned for a full review of the book coming soon. Not only that, but I will be sharing a few recipes AND giving away a copy. Can’t wait? Snag this amazing cookbook on Amazon now!

WHAT I’VE BEEN EATING & DRINKING:
Dandy Blend: For the next few months, especially after a long and sloppy vacation, I’ve decided to double down on my hormonal and gut health. Although I’m a huge coffee fan, I know that having it regularly does not do my body any favors. Instead of having a cup of coffee daily, I have decided to limit it to a cup maybe only once a week and, not first thing in the morning. Dandy Blend, an herbal dandelion-root tea is my favorite coffee alternative. I love to add some nutpods or Laird’s Creamer (see below), plus Vital Proteins Collagen, a scoop of Fourth & Heart Vanilla Bean Ghee and some stevia for sweetness.

Laird’s Superfood Creamer: This is one of the products I discovered at Expo East. A combination of dried coconut milk, coconut oil and a few other superfood ingredients, it is one of the more unique creamers I’ve tried. Although it doesn’t give a visual appearance of creaminess like nutpods, it definitely adds a creamy texture and flavor. I’m a fan!

Primal Palate Sweet Pack: Nothing says fall like fall spices! This was another surprise package I received in the mail before leaving for Europe and you can bet there will be many a fall recipe coming your way using these spices! Primal Palate Spices are all Organic, Non-GMO, Non-Irradiated, Gluten Free… the list goes on. Basically, there are no higher quality spices on the market, period.

Miyoko’s Creamery Mozzarella: This was another Expo East discovery. I must be living under a rock because although this brand has been out on the market for quite some time, I had never heard of them. Unlike the vast majority of dairy-free cheese which is full of processed garbage, I was pleasantly surprised to learn how clean Miyoko’s products were. So far I have bought and used the Mozz at home, but I am excited to experiment with some of the others as well!

Primal Kitchen Coconut Cashew Bars: The newest release from Primal Kitchen, these Coconut Cashew Bars made with collagen are insanely delicious. I tried these for the first time at Expo East as well, but they are already available to purchase online!

WHAT I’VE BEEN TRAVELING WITH:
eBags Pack it Flat Toiletry Case: I have been searching far and wide to find a toiletry bag that 1. fit a lot of stuff and 2. didn’t take up too much space. Might seem like an impossible mission, but after months of searching, I finally found one! This eBags Pack it Flat toiletry bag saved my butt while traveling this past month. Sure enough, I could easily fit all of my toiletries inside (without even using the expansion option) and it took up barely any space in my suitcase. If you’re someone that travels a lot and can’t live without all of your fancy toiletries, this bag is a MUST.

Earth Runners: Sadly, I ordered these before our trip to Maui hoping they would come in time, but unfortunately they didn’t. Thankfully, they did come in time for our Europe trip and I have since used them constantly. I could practically live in flip flops, but especially when traveling and walking far distances, sometimes you need a little extra stability. These Earth Runners are just like walking barefoot, but provide enough padding so that you can hike and run in them with no problem. I wore these constantly in Europe and while at Expo.

Black Rapid Camera Strap: Any other photographers out there? If so, perhaps you can relate to the fact that traditional camera straps are pretty annoying. Personally, they always hurt my neck and it’s difficult to grab for my camera quickly in order to take a shot. Before going on vacation, I purchased this Black Rapid Camera strap which attaches to the bottom of the camera instead of the sides and makes quick shooting SO much easier. Plus, it rests on your shoulder instead of your neck which makes for WAY less pain.

WHAT I’VE BEEN USING ON MY SKIN:
Beautycounter Balancing Face Oil: Up until now, hemp oil was really the only oil I used on my skin. (You can read about my entire topical skincare routine here). Having said that, now that my skin is in a much better place, I have been experimenting with a few other products and oils. I recently bought the Beautycounter Balancing Face Oil and I am obsessed. I add a few drops to my moisturizer and it leaves my face feeling incredibly nourished. Not only that, but I’ve always suffered from dry skin and especially before applying makeup, the extra moisture this oil gives me is just fantastic. Plus, it smells SO good!

Desert Essence Blemish Touch Stick: This was actually a product I used back when my skin was at its worst and unfortunately, I overused it. Back then I decided to get rid of the vast majority of my skincare products and focus only on the basics. I recently decided to start using this product again, knowing that now I wouldn’t overuse it. It is naturally anti-bacterial and is great to apply to a pesky blemish to help soothe it and prevent it from getting worse and more inflamed.

Beautycounter Lip Sheer in Petal and Rose: I have always struggled with finding the perfect shade for my lips. I always feel that what I choose is too muted or far too bright. After buying both the Rose and Petal shades of the Beautycounter Lip Sheer, I finally had a revelation. If I apply the Rose first and then the Petal, the shade is absolutely PERFECT! If you struggle with finding the perfect shade too, try combining a few colors and see if it does the trick!
