What I Love In December

What-I-Loved-in-December

WHAT I’VE BEEN EATING AND DRINKING

Love Beets: This past month I made not one, but two recipes using Love Beets products. I am pretty obsessed with beets, but not that obsessed with the prep that’s often necessary to prepare them. Love Beets make marinated beets, pre-cooked plain beets and beet juice which makes cooking with beets SO much easier. Check out my recipe for Paleo Red Velvet Fudge and this Winter Harvest Salad which both use Love Beets products!

Siete Foods Grain Free Chips: 2016 product of the year award definitely goes to Siete Foods. I’ve known about the release of these chips for a few months now and the anticipation almost killed me. There are NO other grain-free tortilla chips on the market and as a tortilla chip lover, I can honestly say these are just as good as the real thing. Keep your eyes peeled in January when these hit stores and make sure to try all three flavors – Sea Salt, Lime and Nacho (which is dairy-free too!!).

Farmhouse Culture: Farmhouse Culture debuted brand new packaging, plus a ton of new products including fermented veggies. After moving to San Diego I became obsessed with the Taqueria Mix you get in nearly every taco shop and now I am thrilled I can have what I know is a high-quality version of this at home. Farmhouse also released a variety of other fermented veggies including beets and cauliflower.

Suja Drinking Vinegars: Drinking a bit of apple cider vinegar has been shown to do everything from help heal a sore throat, boost immunity, improve acne and other skin issues, plus much, much more. Unfortunately drinking the stuff isn’t exactly the most pleasant tasting. This is why I love Suja’s new Drinking Vinegars, because they give you all the benefits of ACV without the unpleasant taste. My favorite variety is the Strawberry Balsamic (which is available at Whole Foods) but I’ve tried all 6 flavors on their website and there isn’t one I don’t like!

Navitas Naturals Maca Maple Bars: I first tried these superfood bars several months ago but discovered them again this past month at Shiftcon. I am not really a “bars” person. I prefer real food and don’t normally enjoy eating most bars. These however are super tasty and I love the addition of maca for hormonal health.

Bare Bones Turkey Bone Broth: Bare Bones has long been my favorite bone broth so I was thrilled to try their Turkey broth for the first time this past month. I am a big fan of mixing up what foods I eat to get the maximum number of nutrients. So while it’s relatively easy to find chicken and beef bone broth, I am excited to have another option that’s both nutrient dense and delicious! You can easily order Bare Bones on their website.

SKINCARE & BODYCARE I’VE BEEN LOVING

Acure Dry Shampoo: I used to be one of those people who washed their hair every single day, until I realized how thin and unhealthy my hair had become. Only problem is, I have bangs and bangs tend to get quite greasy after one day. Dry shampoo definitely worked, but I am by no means a fan of toxic body care products because of all of the hormonal issues I’ve dealt with, so I was at a bit of a loss as to what to do other than washing my hair daily. Thankfully, I recently discovered that Acure makes a non-toxic dry shampoo. The best part? It actually works! I quickly dumped my conventional products and use this exclusively.

Beautycounter Rose Lip Sheer: If you follow me on Snapchat you probably saw me talk about how obsessed I am with the combination of Beautycounter’s Rose Lip Sheer and the Sienna Lip Gloss (below). I have never been a big lipstick person and still can’t really get down with bright red lipstick, but this Rose Lip Sheer offers just enough color to make it obvious I am wearing something, but not to the point where it makes me uncomfortable. All of the Beautycounter Lip Sheers are non-toxic and feel so light and smooth going on they practically feel like chapstick.

Beautycounter Sienna Lip Gloss: My favorite part about this lip gloss is that this is never a shade I would have bought for myself. I got this shade as a freebie at Shiftcon and fell in love with how it looked on top of the Rose Lip Sheer, also from Beautycounter. I don’t like the way dark shades look on my lips, but this shade is mild enough to wear I really love it. Especially coupled with the pink of the Rose Lip Sheer, it’s one of my favorite combinations.

Derma-e Hydrating Night Cream: While I was struggling with hormonal acne I steered clear of the vast majority of skincare products aside from what I used as part of my hormonal acne protocol. Now that my skin is much improved, I have been experimenting a bit more with some all-natural skincare products. Derma-e sent me their Hydrating Night Cream and I’ve been loving it. It’s incredibly nourishing and doesn’t break me out which is always a plus!

WHAT I’VE BEEN COOKING

Paleo Chocolate Chip Pecan Pie: I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say this is the best pecan pie I’ve ever had. Sure, I might be biased, but even the gluten and dairy-aholics I’ve served this to have loved it. I made it for my family over the holidays and it was devoured. Other than being completely delicious it’s surprisingly simple to make!

Winter Harvest Salad With Avocado Citrus Dressing: I absolutely loved having this salad on hand over the holidays with all of the tempting treats and desserts. (Ahem, pecan pie, ahem). This salad is a great reminder that even in the winter you can find nutritious and colorful in-season produce. Not only that but the avocado citrus dressing that goes with this salad is great to use not just as a dressing but also a sauce for chicken, fish or steak!

Caffeine Free Chai Latte for Hormonal Health: I am obsessed with chai tea, but after giving up caffeine on my hormonal acne protocol I was at a loss. Thanks to Vital Proteins new Vanilla Collagen and Four Stigmatic’s Chaga Mushroom Elixir, I was able to come up with this caffeine-free Chai Latte which not only doesn’t affect my hormones negatively, but actually supports healthy hormonal balance.
